SUPERPLANT SPOTLIGHT: TRIPHALA

Triphala means “three fruits”, referring to the fruits of amla, bibitaki and haritaki that comprise  the combination. The fruits are dried, powdered, mixed together, and encapsulated. This blend is about the most compatible medicine there is, and will benefit literally anyone who takes it.

The uses for triphala fill volumes in the Ayurvedic literature. Beside being a general tonic, it is a light laxative, skin, eye, and liver nourisher and general detoxifier. Ayurvedic texts refer to triphala as an “toxin scraper”; it helps pull toxins out of the intestines and draws them out of the body. Triphala lowers cholesterol significantly.

As a general lifelong tonic, take 1 gram of triphala per day. To support your cleanse and keep your bowels open, start triphala at 3 grams per day, and increase by one gram per day (up to 5 grams) until the bowels are comfortably regular.
