SOMETHING BREWING THIS WAY COMES: TIOSK

By Hannah Phoebe Bowen.

Tiosk has quickly become everybody’s favourite nook on Broadway market. In amongst a thriving restaurant scene their quiet, laidback atmosphere, glorious cake selection and comforting foods mean they are able to calmly say “we only serve tea” to the endless stream of customers popping in for a cappuccino. More often than not they stay for a cosy cuppa instead.

Once you look above the entrancing cake display (which always includes gluten-free and raw vegan options, occasionally a baked vegan cake sneaks in too), the tea menu is mesmerising and as baffling as it is seductive. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful if you provide a few pointers as to your tastes and fancies and you’re likely to come away feeling you’ve made a new discovery.

There are food options for any eater – toasts come on sourdough or gluten-free rice bread and the “wholeness bowls” of daily changing salad can be topped with a range of delicacies such as grilled portobellos with tahini sauce or seasonal baked samosas – all made in house and designed by their macrobiotic chef, smoked salmon or cheese.
